Time Trial Under the Lights

Friday night, my cross country team and I participated in our annual time trial at Kerscher Stadium. This event serves as a way to build excitement for our upcoming conference race. We arrived at King Horn, all dressed up in fun costumes, with braided hair and smiles on our faces. The atmosphere was filled with high spirits as we enjoyed our late night practice and eagerly anticipated hitting the track for the first time this season. The time trial consisted of a women's heat and two men's heats, covering a distance of 2 miles. As we warmed up and stretched, we played music to pump ourselves up for the race ahead. It's important to note that this time trial was not meant to be a high-pressure race, but rather a chance for us to have fun and see what we could achieve as individuals. Prior to the race, I worked with my coach to develop a race strategy, aiming for a time of 13 minutes. Once we shed our warm-up gear, we were ready to begin.

The gun fired and the women's heat was off. We positioned ourselves, just as we would in any other race, sticking with our pace groups and approaching each lap with determination. It felt as though we were soaring through the air. Unlike our usual cross country terrain of grass and woods, running on the track provided a refreshing change. The music playing in the background fueled my motivation, lap after lap. With each lap getting me closer and closer to the end, keeping track of our progress was a breeze. The rest of the track team, filled with enthusiasm, gathered to support and cheer us on as we pushed ourselves to the limit. Their presence added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. To aid us in maintaining our pace, a running time clock was displayed at the race, making it effortless to monitor our progress. As I crossed the finish line with a time of 13 minutes, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction and pride in my performance. Each and every one of us competed admirably and had an incredible time. Some of us, more than others, relished the opportunity to be back on the track even before the official track season began. Our coach beamed with pride at our accomplishments, instilling in us a newfound confidence for the upcoming conference race.

The men's heats were absolutely fantastic as well! As a united team, we truly needed this incredible boost of confidence as we approached conference week, fully prepared to compete with unwavering positivity. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 28th, as our conference race takes place at the Hillcrest Golf Club in Findlay, Ohio. The men's race commences at 11 a.m., followed closely by the women's race at 12 p.m. Join us and show your support for the mighty polar bears! We promise to deliver an outstanding performance that will leave you in awe!

As Always, GO BEARS!

  1. This sounded like it was such an exciting night! How much is left in the season? I think it's getting way too cold to be running outside! After all, it did snow the other day!! :)
