Everything Happens for a Reason

Freshman Year: Sophomore Year:     Junior Year: Senior Year: For this week’s blog, I want to share a personal story! As we wrap up the fourth week of classes, I’m feeling stressed and juggling a lot. But despite the chaos, I feel the happiest and most like myself than I have in a very long time. However, reaching this point wasn’t easy. I had to let go of something I once loved passionately for over nine years to finally start feeling like myself again. Let’s rewind to my freshman year. I was recruited to run for the Women’s Cross Country and Track teams here at Ohio Northern University. Running on the team was everything I had hoped for. I loved the people, the environment and of course, running. I came to ONU on a high, running well, traveling to meets, hitting my goals and staying consistent with my times. As the season progressed, I grew faster and more confident. When the season ended, I jumped straight into indoor track, where I continued to excel. Practices were going

Client Presentations and Decision

Image
T his past week in our Social Media Strategy and Campaign class, we embarked on an exciting phase of the course: selecting the client we’ll work with for the remainder of the semester. We were introduced to three unique businesses, each with its own set of objectives and challenges and our task was to evaluate their pitches to determine which one we felt most passionate about helping. The goal of this project is to collaborate with real-world clients, providing us with hands-on experience in understanding business needs and crafting tailored social media strategies. Listening to the clients was a fun process because each business had different objectives, yet they all shared a common goal of achieving growth and success through strategic digital engagement. The client pitches included:  Tammy Schakett Fleming with Clan Fleming Scottish Society : Tammy’s organization is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the history and heritage of the Fleming clan. Her goal is to increase member

My Senior Capstone Topic

Image
A s I dive into my final fall semester, I’m excited to get started on my senior capstone project. I’ve finally chosen my topic and I can’t wait to see how everything comes together. Since I have a strong love for the outdoors, photography and design, I thought why not combine all three? I’ve decided to create a photography lookbook that brings these passions together. The project will feature people wearing outdoor clothing from brands like Patagonia, The North Face and REI, showing how these pieces are more than just gear, they’re part of each person’s unique story. In this photography lookbook I’ll be photographing people in their natural element, whether they’re hiking, running or just enjoying the outdoors. After that, I’ll also take a portrait of them. The idea is to connect the outdoor clothing to the person wearing it, showing how these items become a part of their journey, lifestyle and personal story. Outdoor clothing is about being part of a community of adventurers and shari

Welcome back!

First Day of School Picture! I'm excited to be back for my final fall semester at Ohio Northern University! This semester, I’m taking my last social media course with Professor Aggie, called Social Media Strategies and Campaigns, which is why I’m blogging again. But I’m not complaining! I truly enjoy blogging and sharing what’s going on in my life. In addition to Professor Aggie’s class, I’m enrolled in five other courses. Although this semester's class load will be challenging, I believe staying busy will motivate me to accomplish more. On top of my coursework, I’ll also be working as a freelancer for Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, the company where I interned this past summer. During my internship, I had the opportunity to work in their communications department as a communications intern. My responsibilities included managing social media pages, designing graphics and creating content calendars to maximize engagement each month. I also contributed to various print projects, i

Last Blog Post of the Semester

Image
I can hardly believe that the semester is almost over and this will be my final blog post for the semester. It feels like it went by so quickly and it was definitely a busy one. I managed to handle the workload by putting in a lot of hard work and also making sure to have some fun along the way. Throughout this semester, I discovered a lot about myself and what truly motivates me to do my best work. I also found myself enjoying classes that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. One class that stood out to me was Principles of Social Media, where I got to immerse myself in the world of social media and complete assignments on platforms like Pinterest, Twitter (X) and even podcasting. Starting this blog was also a highlight for me, as I thoroughly enjoyed the process. However, there were ups and downs throughout the blogging journey. Some weeks it was easier to come up with topics to write about, especially when I had busy weekends during my cross country season. Writing

Wrapping up the Stukent Book

Image
Our class has successfully completed the Stukent book, covering all the essential chapters required for the course! We delved into twelve chapters of social media content, with a strong emphasis on social media marketing. The knowledge I gained from these chapters extended beyond the confinement of the classroom, as I found myself engrossed in the material. In fact, I couldn't resist exploring other chapters that piqued my curiosity through their intriguing titles. Overall, my impression of the Stukent book and its presentation is exceedingly positive. It didn't feel like a typical textbook; instead, it immersed me in the world of social media through integrated videos and bite-sized chunks of vital information, rather than lengthy paragraphs. The chapters' focused approach, targeting specific platforms or concepts, greatly aided my understanding. By avoiding the confusion of jumping between various platforms when discussing marketing, algorithm and usage, the book provid

The Simternship

Image
I successfully finished all 12 rounds in the Stukent Simternship, a semester-long simulation that immerses students in a realistic working environment. This experience allowed me to gain valuable skills in marketing and expand my knowledge of the social media field. Throughout the Simternship, I engaged in various types of social media posts, including organic posts, paid posts and influencer posts. I carefully analyzed the analytics for each post and considered the company's feedback in order to effectively manage the social media accounts for Buhi, a company that specializes in selling bags of all kinds. As students, we had the opportunity to promote these products through a series of posts and collaborate with influencers to increase brand awareness, reach, conversions, likes, followers and more. I used the feedback from each round of posts to improve and refine my strategies for the next rounds. This feedback encompassed the optimal posting times, content quality, revenue
